GM recall
GM Recalling 1.3 Million Vehicles for potential Fire Hazard
June 9, 2010
General Motors has announced on Tuesday that it is recalling 1.5 million vehicles worldwide due to problems with a heated windshield washer system that could cause a fire. This recall includes several crossovers, sport utility vehicles, pickups, and passenger cars produced between 2006 and 2009.
GM has offered to pay owners and lessees of the recalled vehicles $100, and to remove the heated windshield washer fluid system. This is GM’s second recall of the heated windshield washer system. The first recall was in 2008, which added a fuse to address a potential electrical short. But, since then there were five (5) incidents of fire reported, which made GM announce this newest recall.
Most of the recalled GM vehicles are in the United States, which some are in Canada, Mexico, and other countries. Owners of these recalled vehicles will start receiving letters from GM about the recall issue and its solution starting from Friday. GM dealers will remove the heated washer fluid module and reroute washer fluid hoses. This whole procedure will probably take more than 20 minutes to complete.
